The Nikon F100 is a great camera (with a sharper finder
than the N90), and there is a list of Nikkor optical types, many
evaluated, at: http://www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/slemn.html
The Nikon lens line has been wide-ranging, and generally
top-quality, but recent low-end AF zooms are tarnishing
that. Canon has been making some nice special lenses, but
the line has a higher percentage of low-end stuff, so select
more carefully than with Nikon for best results...;-)
Canon bodies also appear to be improving lately, with better
viewfinders than in the past. The Canon IS and TS lenses are
particularly interesting... For what you like to shoot,
maybe I would look at the F100 and 2-3 of the best
non-zooms (or the 28-70 f2.8) plus the 80-200 f2.8...
