If you run into any Nikkor 50mm lenses that are not so good, they are
either the old-style 50mm f1.4 at wide apertures, or poor samples
(rather than poor designs)... All others are excellent, with the
50mm f1.8 AIS metal-barrel version perhaps very slightly better
than others (though it has barrel distortion, which the
E/AIS[plastic]/AF design does not...) - though the 50mm f1.2 (at
optimum focus distance only!) may slightly beat even that one.
Most of the Nikkor 50's are VERY similar in performance...
