While most of the Nikon "E" series lenses were really excellent optically (the compromises for lower price were in the barrel construction), the 28mm "E" is notably poor in optical quality,
in my experience. I would go for a used AIS 28mm f2.8 or AI-AIS
28mm f3.5 Nikkor (and avoid these variants: 28mm f3.5 non-AI;
28mm f2.8 AF, non-AI, and AI) for top quality. All the 28mm f2
Nikkors are also fine.
