I should tell you my prejudices first: I don't like AF; I don't like
the N90 for MF (the screen isn't sharp enough for me for easy MF); I
don't like zooms, particularly short FL ones... (I have been returning
to the slower primes for weight/size reasons). I do keep a 35-105,
and use it for trips. The 80-200 f2.8 is optically wonderful (except
near minimum focus, near maximum aperture, near maximum FL [as one
combined condition]), but klunky/heavy/awkward to use (put an 85mm f2,
a 135mm f2.8, and a 180mm f2.8 AF next to the 80-200mm f2.8, and
unless the zoom feature is essential [it is for a little of my
wedding work, so I kept it, and not the 180...], I would choose the
primes). Lens choice/sequencing is fun/frustrating, and the choices
vary with uses/preferences/performance-requirements. A good travel
rig for me is the 20mm f2.8 and the 35-105 (+16?, +200?, or 20-50-135?).
A work rig (people) is 20, 35, 85 (+16?, +80-200?) - for buildings is
15, 20, 28PC, 35PC, 85 (+135?, +8?, +16?). For fun shooting, 20mm f2.8.
