No problem mixing within a brand - and the Sony
DVM-60PR and DVM-60EX are fine together. Sony claims
a 2db S/N advantage for the EX, but this will make no
difference in the image/sound quality until (maybe)
the signal is very degraded on the tape (by then the
support/binder/etc. degradation may have long since
made the tape unplayable, anyway...;-)

I doubt you will ever miss not having the chip - save
money and buy tape without it, unless you can figure out
a good enough reason for having it (I haven't...;-).
