Thanks for pointing out this site - it does show that the
wide-stop near-infinity-focus image of the GL-1 looks
sharper than the same image from the TRV-900 (though the
contrast of the GL-1 image is obviously higher, contributing
some to this - and in practice, except in fairly low
daylight, the stop used for exteriors is likely to be
smaller than f4 or so...); at f5.6 and smaller, the
"tables are turned", and the TRV900 images are sharper,
indicating that the 900 and GL-1 lenses may be optimizing
before this stop (to a roughly similar resolution), and
that the CCD resolution is higher on the TRV900... At
f5.6-11, notice the vertical-line irregularities in the
test charts with the GL-1. I find this effect quite
unsettling when videoing material (like buildings, fences,
interiors) with multiple near-vertical lines - it looks
as bad as the MiniDV-usual stairstepping on near-horizontal
lines and adds to the "busy" look of the image. (JB covers
this effect, in the paragraph immediatelybelow the
thumbnails...) BTW, the Panasonic EZ30U also showed some
of this effect - one reason I sold it...
