A no. 87 IR filter has a bit stronger effect than a dark red
(no. 25, available at most large photo stores), but you can
get the IR effect on Sony "night-shot" camcorders even
without a filter. A Kodak no. 87 3" gel is a rather expensive
$30 or so, so I would try the cheap red first
(adding a polarizer helps, as does switching to B&W mode).
BTW, the "X-ray" effect is 99% hooey, but scenery looks
great in IR (and look at all those nifty Mitsubishi car
ads shot with it...! ;-)
