Why? The outer surface faces the world, so that leaves only one
relavant surface for consideration, rather than two. David Jacobson,
in a post above, came up with a good reason for using multicoated
filters (Yuh finally got me, huh DJ? And with a practical, rather
than theoretical, demonstration - way ta go! ;-), involving
reflection of a very bright subject off the film, then off the flat
(uncoated vs. multicoated - what about single-coated filters, DJ? ;-)
surface of the filter. But most of the time, I think there is little
need for multicoating.
