Yes.

It is a pain, but a simple little "clicker" at the beginning
of a scene will get you synch at the beginning (and if the
MD recorder keeps synch with time, you are OK for the
rest...;-).

The GL1 AGC cannot be defeated, but you can experiment a bit
with matching mic sensitivity to it to affect the AGC action
for best result... (a higher-sensitivity mic will force the
"quiet-time" noise floor relatively lower [assuming there is
something recorded from the mic loud enough to do this...],
but if it is too sensitive, loud sounds will be overly
compressed by the AGC).

Yes...;-) Though, much as people report the "rumor" of
"noise problems" with the VX2000 (and it is not quiet
compared with the capability of the medium, though it
is quiet compared with similar camcorder models...), I
continue to make quiet recordings with it, using the
AGC - and, occasionally, Cool Edit noise reduction...;-)
