Ah, there's the rub. Whether 'tis nobler to stay with the all-mechanical
FM-2, or set out upon this new plastic-electronic world of the N90X?
Heck, I dunno. The prices, sizes, weights, feels, operational modes,
capabilities, etc. of the two cameras are different, but the plastic
feel and the electronics of the N90X notwithstanding, they will probably have about equally lengthy lives. Sounds like you really like the FM-2
- how about buying a used FM-2 and a used N801 and have both worlds?
(The "D" feature of the N90X is one of subtle usefulness at best, IM(NS)HO, though the wide AF field would be useful if I could find any use for AF.....[but, I am not fond of auto exposure, either]. I do find the built-in motor and the TTL flash of the newer bodies useful.)
Hope this helps.
