No problem - all TTL flashes are low-voltage-switching.

Yes. In M mode you can select any shutter speed to 1/90th for flash.

No - this is normal.

Basically, in TTL flash auto modes the camera shuts down the ambient
meter and goes with flash only - not ideal. I prefer the greater
control and versatility of manual mode.
