Hi--

Hello David. I still continue to use your SLE -- find it to be very accurate. Was wondering what you find to be the best focusing screen (s) for the F3HP. I have the Nikon screen chart, am currently using the original type K (split screen is a headache sometimes) and a F4 type B -- and you're the last person I need to tell that, yes, it is brighter, but where did the contrast go? Am looking at only red dot F3 screens as the best way to go? Maybe a type B, or possibly the E to help w/horizons. The D looks interesting but is w/o fresnel, so it wouldn't be as bright as the B or E, right? But what about contrast/focus snap of a fine matte vs matte/fresnel? D seems to be limited in lens compatibility, tho? Am shooting primarily wildlife, macro, nature, w/ocassional portraiture.

If you stay over about 100mm, the D is fine, but pretty useless as you
go wide... (dark corners). The red-dot B and E are both the same ('cept
fer th' grid), have a very small non-Fresnell area, but are pretty good.
Never really compared the non-red-dots with later screens, except to see
that the later ones were slightly brighter - maybe the earlier ones were
contrastier? I liked the VERY earliest F screens, the B and E, since they
were VERY sharp - though the Fresnel was VERY heavy, and there was a "split"
at the edge of the large non-Fresnel area where image lines were
discintinuous. (I'm still tempted to try mounting one of these in an F3
frame if I find a mint one...;-)

p.s. - have you heard any other comments on the AF Micro 200/4 from other photogers out in the field? My MF 200/4 is one of my most heavily used lenses, but, in concurrence w/your testing, it doesn't perform up to my other Nikkors. Any opportunities to try other samples in the future? These lenses have such great utility for nature apps (and others), and really like the tripod collar.

I appended comments by a user who disagreed with me on it, with the review.
I was disappointed with the MF version, too - a lens I would really like
to like...! ;-) I probably won't try another - I'm too into video these
days...;-) Thanks for the comments.
