The systems are different, and the F3 TTL flashes pick up the ASA info
with a mechanical "feeler" (and variable resistor) in the flash shoe
that contacts the tab on the ASA ring on the F3. BTW, with the AS-7
shoe (or SC-14 TTL remote cord), you can set TTL fill ratios by
setting different ASA's on the camera and SC-14 or AS-7 (keeping in
mind the 400 ASA limit for F3 TTL operation). With the AS-7 shoe, the
rewind remains useable with the flash on, and ISO foot flashes can be
mounted on the camera for non-TTL use. Since the SB-26 has a very wide
range of available apertures useable in auto mode with most film speeds,
for non-tele, non-macro flash work, the SB-26 on the F3 is almost as convenient as TTL. (BTW, if you want an AS-7, I may not keep one
that I just bought...)
Hope This Helps
