There are two ways I know of: "operate" on the camera
to disable the "force-to-wide-stop" switch when "NS"
is engaged, or do as I did with a similar-imager PC100:
add two linear polarizers and rotate them for minimum
transmission, and add a 4X ND filter. Even with the lens
wide-open, the image quality is good, and you can
compensate for bright sunlight down to much lower light
levels (manually, alas, though gain changes will compensate
a bit...) by rotating one polarizer (hold the other in
place with a wide rubber band...). It is too bad Sony
disabled this valuable feature - for silly reasons...
