You may find interesting my Nikkor list (with many evaluated) on my web
page, under "I babble"...
The short of it on the E-series: the 28 is poor, the 35 can be good in
some samples, same with the 36-72, and everything 50mm and longer is
excellent in most samples, with the 75-150 being one of the sharpest
zooms ever made. The zooms are multi-coated, with almost all metal
barrels, the prime barrels are mostly plastic and the glass is
single-coated, but cheap as the E-series lenses seemed when introduced,
they now look and feel like paragons of quality compared with most
AF lenses...
