You can buy excellent $5 tape online (Sony 60PR, and
some others). The image/sound quality will not vary from
tape to tape, but the dropout rate and long-term storage
characteristics *may* vary. Be aware that there was (and
may still be...) an issue with head-clogging from switching
tape brands (differing lubricant types).
