In the US, for about $2000 (Camera World of Oregon
[cameraworld.com] or B&H [BHphotovideo.com]) you can
get a Sony DCR-TRV900 3-chip camcorder (you may want
to add a Kenko wide-angle adapter, for about $100,
and a couple of larger batteries for about $100-150
each). A DV-Raptor FireWire card with Premiere editing
software (download version 5.1a from the adobe.com site,
if not included) is about $6-700. If there is enough
money, add one or two 16, 20, or 25-gig IBM Deskstar
UDMA drives (5400rpm), about $160-$250 each (1 hour
Mini-DV = about 13 gigs of storage). Also tape - stick
with one brand only (there can be problems switching
DV tape brands), about $7-$15/hour tape. Minimum: the
TRV-900 with one extra mid-capacity battery, some tape,
the Canopus DV-Raptor card with Adobe Premiere (comes
with the needed FireWire cable), and one extra (UDMA)
hard drive for video files...
That should do it! Good luck!
