Well, this is pointless and OT, since it really adds nothing
to the discussion of camcorder or video issues other than
marketing, but... Often (VERY often...) the question is
posed in the video groups by someone just starting out
(as this poster, YW, was...), "What *Canon* camera should
I buy?", instead of the better question, "What camera should
I buy for X, Y, and Z purposes?" The power of great Canon
marketing has accomplished this (the newbie asks only about
Canon models...), and I offered the advice and some
resources for widening the consideration to other models
that may better serve his needs. And, guess what? YW (as do
others) thanked me for doing this! I guess if someone had
asked on a car newsgroup what Yugo model was best (since "he
had once driven one of those wonderful cars...";-), you
would object if someone suggested widening his search a bit,
and offered information that might tend to place his first
choice in the context of what else is available...? ;-)
Your objection to broadening the discussion would *NOT* be
doing the questioner a service!
Your fervent Canon partisanship knows no bounds, but it
cannot be allowed to limit the discussion and consideration
of camcorder models to only what is available from Canon,
much as that appears to be your desire...;-)
