More than 5 - it was ALL the Sony Mini-DV variants...
And, "For comparison of some of these with models of
other brands, see:

See above - all but the one you have seen already do...;-)

A quick check of google.com of the video NGs will supply
"cascades" of responses on all the above... If, though, you
would like to pay me (or others) to test and review
camcorders (and supply the gear, free...), I (we) would be
happy to provide what you want (which has already been
supplied free, but at my [our] expense in a less "neat"
form than you may be used to with digital still cameras),
if you do a little searching for the pieces that are
available...;-) Or, I'm thinking about buying a car - what
single site has **ALL** the features/characteristics/tests
of everything I'm likely to want to know about any car
now available, in a neat, well-organized site...? ;-)
If you have hung around these NGs, you will discover that
there are MANY approaches to selection, and those of us
who put up comparison sites cover those characteristics
most important to us. For me it is image and sound quality
first, and auto-control reliability second; for others, most
important is what it looks like, how cheap it is, how small
it is, how good the manual controls are, etc. As for the
tape formats, that has been covered endlessly - bottom
line: Mini-DV = D8 = DVCam for practical purposes in terms
of signal-format, if not always in terms of the associated
hardware...
