My guess: $15-1700 in mint, low-use condition, maybe
$1200 in lesser condition...

Old??? It could have been as little as two years old
when bought new. Go for low-use, nice condition,
rather than worry about age...

Only the TRV900 and VX2000 give it real competition
in this price area, though the VX2000 new is above-budget.
If the limitations of the similar-priced Panasonic
models and the Canon GL-1 are OK, these are possibilities.
See www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/camcorder-comparison.htm
and www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/sony_dcr-vx2000.htm
for comparisons, though, and

references of what to look for in picture characteristics...

VX2000, easily, around $2350 new, hard to find used...
The TRV900 was a good runner-up, though, at a much
lower price...

I would either buy a used VX2000 (if possible...), or
spend the extra for a new VX2000, or find a good used
VX1000 or TRV900...
