No, since if you decrease the incoming signal, the
AGC will raise it; if you increase the signal, the
AGC will lower it (kinda the point of the AGC...;-).
Though I suppose lowering the signal may result
in relatively more compression of the lower levels;
raising it may result in relatively more compression
of the peaks? If true, you can take your pick of the
lesser evil for you...;-)
