Hmmm, maybe you can...
Try a manual-focus body with a sharp screen (my preference is
one without a "focus aid" - the plain ground-glass center is
easier for me to judge sharpness), like an F3, FA/FE/FM-series,
or even the 8008. Put on a single-FL lens of good quality
in the center wide-open (virtually all Nikkors...), since
zooms are generally more difficult to focus, all else being
equal. If this does not do it, your eyes may be aging, and you
will need correction to see the viewing screen sharply. Either
a slight correction lens in the camera eyepiece (to refocus
your eye to about 3-4'), or glasses with the correct lenses to
do this (see my article on "Four Way Glasses" on my web page,
under "I babble" for my solution to this) should do it. You
may be surprised to find that you can beat AF accuracy! I
find that all AF systems I have seen but the F5 just plain
mis-focus a large percentage of the time. When you can see
a sharp viewing screen sharply, you can quickly become
dissatisfied with AF focus accuracy!
