Much as I dislike AF (and AE, also), it can be very useful for those
who can see well enough to frame the image, but cannot focus it
manually (though the viewfinder screens and optics are so bad on
many AF cameras that people think they can't manually focus when
they would do just fine with better equipment). I find AF accuracy
questionable in many instances, but it is good enough to insure
a reasonable percentage of sharp pictures for most purposes.
The AF indicators are another story - they lie egregiously.
