Well, now, there is a "purdy gud" reason for choosing the 8008
over the 8008s (if you, like me, don't care about AF or the small
improvement in AF in the "s" - and find camera spot meters the
"quick route to bad exposure"...;-). In providing for the spot
meter, the most useful meter pattern (the large-spot, otherwise
known as "center-weighted") was compromised: the center of the
large spot is dead, leaving a peculiar "doughnut-shaped" metering
pattern in the "s". BTW, I find the 8008 the most useful of the
Nikon bodies for general 35mm commercial work since it is
reasonably durable, is reasonably compact and light (and is
comfortable to hold), has a good and easily seen (and sharp,
rare these days in AF bodies...) viewfinder, includes a useable
motor drive, has an excellent TTL flash system (which allows
convenient manual setting of TTL fill-ratios, and the "shading"
of light with the SB-24), and doesn't cost a fortune (so one
can afford to own several).
