One thing that irritates me about the N90 is the relative unsharpness
of the viewfinder compared with the 8008 or Nikon manual bodies
(I rarely use AF, and this is a fatal flaw in the N90 for me... [I will
sometime try fitting an 8008 screen into an N90 and see if this solves
the problem]). BTW, I suspect something may be wrong with your 8008,
since it does not normally "whirr" at turn on unless there is no film
in it - the "whirr" is the first-frame loading of the film, and should
result in several blank frames if it happens once film has been
brought to the first frame... As a manual camera (ME, MF) with
excellent flash capability, the 8008 is excellent (I keep a bunch
around to make sure I have 2-3 available for my commercial work as
more time passes since Nikon idiotically discontinued this nice camera
(and never really replaced it...).
