Hmmm, this issue was covered a couple of weeks ago...
Generally the 8008 lock-up occurs with weak batteries and/or
humid conditions - turning all switches off and dropping
the batteries (momentarily) usually restores things (with a
battery change generally being in order - they are usually
VERY weak when this occurs). Occasionally, the lock-up is
accompanied by a film jam (also caused by weak batteries,
and it may require the removal of the film in the dark).
I put up with the 8008 quirks since it is otherwise a
great inexpensive (manual-use - I turn off the AE/AF/matrix
features) motorized camera with a nice VF, TTL fill-flash
control (with the SB-24/5/6/7 flashes), and DOF preview.
