My guess is that the construction is the same, but the 8008 does have
one advantage over the 8008s. In the "center-weighted" metering mode
(my preferred pattern), the metering patch is about equal to the large
circle in the viewfinder in both cameras. In the 8008, sensitivity is
fairly uniform across the circle, but in the 8008s the patch is dead in
the center, giving a "doughnut"-shaped metering patern which I find
less useful... (I suspect the problem arises from the implementation
of the spot metering, a mode I find rarely useful.)
