Hmmm, unless I'm misunderstanding your question, the 8008 illumination
depends on the amount of light metered off the screen... Lotsa light
there, no illuminator, regardless of the amount of light where the body is...
(which is why there is a button to manually turn on the
illumination when needed...). Adding a converter may have
coincidentally dropped the screen brightness enough to turn on the
light (try putting your hand over the lens front to see if the
light comes on...).
