No, the 8008 does not have a doughnut metering pattern when
in "center weighted" mode, unlike the 8008s. Pass a bare light
bulb across the screens of both cameras - you will see the
difference in the metering as you cross the center. BTW, most
manual focus camers had center weighted metering, and came with
VF screens equiped with those dreadful split image/microprism
focus "aids" (that get in the way of serious focusing with
the plain matte part of the screen), so, apparently, they
don't cause problems with metering, just focusing. One nice
thing about AF cameras is that they come with a nice screen -
it isn't necessary to go out and buy a replacement ;-)
Also, BTW, the bare bulb check reveals that virtually all of
the metering sensitivity is in an area the size of the large
circle in the VF of 8008's and F3's - not so much a "center
weighted" as a "large spot" metering pattern.
