While it appears that these two variations on a model are
virtually identical, they are appropriate for different
types of use. If you lean more towards simplicity and
manual operation, the 8008 is better, since it has a
"center-weighted" metering patch that is just that (and
not a doughnut shaped patch, as in the 8008s - has to do
with providing spot metering, I guess). The 8008s has
slightly faster AF, predictive AF, and spot metering
(with that awkward metering pattern for "center-weighted").
I don't use AF, Matrix metering, AE, and spot metering, so,
for me, the 8008 is a nice, compact, easy-to-control manual
body with a built-in motor, great TTL flash control (with
the SB-24), and an excellent VF that is kind to this wearer
of glasses. If you are into more bells and whistles than I
am, go for the 8008s - it's an excellent camera, and
cheaper than the N90s (which is similar, but has even more
B's & W's that I wouldn't use).
