Hmmm, I will have to tell my 80-200mm f2.8 AF Nikkor that the VERY
SHARP images it is capable of from f4 on down with the TC14/14B,
and especially TC14C, are a figment of its imagination...;-).
I would agree that 2X converters are not ideal with it, though,
but that is generally true of most lenses, unless they are well
stopped down. Only a couple of lenses look really good to me
(on the TC300/301) at wider apertures that I have tried: the
300mm f4.5 ED non-IF, the 300mm f2.8 MF, and the 400mm f3.5
(though there are almost certainly other good performers with
2X converters at wider apertures among that breed of expensive
and huge fast tele Nikkor EDIF's, many of which I have not tried).
