That is a strong reason for keeping the 70-300 - it is very light!
Of the three samples of the 70-300, one of the 75-300, a few of
the 100-300, and one sample of the 80-200 + TC14C, the best was the
80-200 + TC, the next was the 100-300's, then the 75-300, then
the 70-300, which, for me, dipped below my standards for Nikkors
to keep - but I'm rather particular, and keep few zooms...
Other people seem to like the 70-300 more than I do (many people
don't seem to care about having the best sharpness, and/or don't
care about edge/corner performance). For non-critical use (the
lens is not soft...), the 70-300 is fine...
