It is decent at medium distances, but it is probably not ideal for
close-up or infinity work. Nikkor 50mm f2, f1.8 E, AF, AI, and AIS
(metal or plastic-barrel version) would all be better for the
purpose, as would the old 55mm f3.5 macro, and many other Nikkors.
