I'm not sure what distance you mean by close focus...
Neither lens is acceptable for macro work, and isn't
at its best at minimum focus. From maybe 4-15 feet
or so, both are excellent, with the f1.2 being better
at the widest stops. Near infinity focus, the f1.4 is
the clear winner wider than about f5.6. The 50mm f1.8's
are less distance sensitive, and the E/AF versions have
no linear distortion and are often very good at f2.
BTW, distortion doesn't change with f-stop...
