The 50mm is almost two stops faster, and better at f2 than the 43-86
is at any aperture (unless you get the mythical "good" version that I haven't seen yet...[I have tried an AI version.]). If you care at all
about sharpness in your photos, avoid that poor lens at ANY price!
(There have been very few poor or mediocre Nikkors, but this is one
of those very few!)
