Having tried a couple of these (including a "late" version...),
I could only conclude that the 43-86mm Nikkor was intended as
Nikon's reference lens, compared with which ALL other Nikkor
lenses would ALWAYS look SUPERB...;-). It is mainly useful
as a softish "portrait" lens (and is particularly useful
for this purpose at its "short" end...;-), and also, of
course, for those ever-popular "general puropse" photos...;-)
It is Nikon's one "Doggy-Doo" lens - it is the pits, BLEAH,
Pah! BAD! ;-)
