I did not find the 35-70 f2.8 AF Nikkor (2 samples) particularly
outstanding in performance, fast enough to justify the price and inconvenience, or versatile enough to bother with.... (unlike the
80-200mm f2.8 AF Nikkor) - fixed lenses in its range easily
outperform it in optical quality, speed, size, weight, and
(generally) price. I do not understand its appeal (if it were
a really good 35-70mm f2, or 28-85mm f2.8, maybe....).
