It is a remarkably good lens for the price, and likely better than
inexpensive alternatives. Good samples (most that I have seen) are
quite fine at medium to long distances at the short end, running to
good at the long end, with very good close-focus performance at the
long end. For a cheap zoom, corner performance is quite high throughout.
(The salesman was just pushing Sigma - they do it here, too....)
