Coincidentally, I just checked a recent 35mm f2 Nikkor MF against a recent 35mm f1.4 MF (there is no AF f1.4 [and, coincidentally, the original poster is looking at this particular 35mm f2 for possible purchase...;-]) at infinity only, and they are remarkably similar in
performance - both are excellent, and somewhat better, I think, than
the AF 35mm f2 I tried. There is a little sample variation in the
35mm f1.4's, and a fair amount in the 35mm f2's I have tried which
may explain different relative opinions on these lenses. Good samples
of both are very fine lenses.
