In article <5j6nt9$jor$1@news.indy.net>, bandjpf@indy.net says...

(Be mindful of the designations - there may be similar lenses that I
do not like... - and avoid the AF lenses, if you want the metal-barreled
type [I prefer these, also...])
Among the 28mm Nikkors, there are three favorites (well, four..[or 5..];-):
-28mm f3.5 AI or AIS (not non-AI or AI'd)
-28mm f2.8 AIS (not AI, non-AI, E, or AF [AF-D is OK])
-28mm f4 PC (f3.5 PC is OK)
-28mm f2 (all versions)
-28mm f1.4 AF (by reputation only - I have not tried it)
(I would look for a good used sample of either of the first two...)
Among 35mm Nikkors, there are three favorites:
-35mm f2 AIS (the AI-non-AI are optically the same design, but the AIS
version seems generally to be a bit sharper...)
-35mm f1.4 (all versions)
-35mm f2.8 PC (latest version only)
(I would look for the first, for a good cost/performance/convenience
balance.)
(BTW, I have spare samples of the 28mm f2.8 AIS, 28mm f2, 35mm f2 AIS, and
35mm f1.4 AIS I should sell.....;-)
Hope This Helps
