The Nikon 300mm f4 AF + TC14/14/and-especially-14C... is a
great combination (not AF, though...). The 400mm f5.6
Nikkor is also excellent, and good on converters. Some
older 300mm f4.5's (the non-EDIF, the EDIF, but not the
ED non-IF...;-) are not happy on converters, though.
