This is a VERY useful thing to do in macro work! Magnification is
doubled at the same focus distances. For best quality, stop down to
f8-16 (and there is a 2-stop additional speed loss when using the 2X,
but the TTL camera meters [flash or ambient-light] will take care of
that). A tripod or flash will be necessary for sharpest results. You can
also add an extension tube between the lens and the converter
and/or a 2-element achromat to the front - you can find samples
of high-magnification bug photos on my web page that were taken
with combinations of tubes, achromats, and converters, under
"Phun Fotoz" or "photographs", then "Bugs".
