It is one of Nikon's best (you may find my Nikkor evaluation
list, on my web page under "I babble", interesting...;-),
being quite good wide open, and really excellent by f5.6.
The non-D AF 28 was surprisingly poor, as was the optically
identical 28mm E-series. The "D" version added an element
and CRC, and is noticeablly better, but edge performance is
about what one would expect with a zoom, and nowhere near as
good as the AIS MF 28mm f2.8 (the AI/AIS 28mm f3.5 is also
very good). BTW, if you are buying used, be sure you are
getting the AIS and not the much-inferior AI f2.8 (it seemed
to take Nikon a while to get both the 20 and the 28 f2.8's
right, but when they did....! ;-).
