Stick with "P" - it already selects too high a shutter speed for
too wide an f-stop for most lenses (the "P HI" is worse [though possibly
useful for teles], and the "P DUAL" allows the camera to select either
[with AIS lenses], depending on focal-length). Though I generally avoid
"P" modes altogether...;-)

They are "fault" indicators, when alternately flashing (TTL flash not
seated, too high an ASA selected for TTL flash, lens aperture set
too wide when in "P" modes [set it an minimum aperture...]).
