I am mistified.... The D/non-D 20/24mm AF Nikkor lenses are
the same excellent designs (the 28mm f2.8 AF D is redesigned,
and [hopefully!] better than the non-D). If you used reasonable
shutter speeds (anything at least 1/30th second should be easy!),
f5.6 or smaller, and accurate focus, you should get sharp pictures
with any of the lenses you named, unless something is wrong with the
camera (or the particular lens samples you tried [though, having
tried many samples of each, I have seen very little sample
variation in these two lenses]).
