It is older - and was offered as non-AI, and AI. There should be nothing to
worry about, as long as you use an AI'd or AI version. This is a good example
of "keeping up with the Jonses" at the expense of quality - the f2.8
replacement (to make it as fast as the competition, with a useless aperture)
is not as good as the f3.5 wider than about f11 (the f3.5 is good wide-open,
making it a true speed lens, since it can be hand-held at VERY slow speeds
[like 1/4]).
