If you copy camera-to-camera using FireWire, it
will be copied at 12-bit, regardless of the
camera setting. If you use Premiere (and most
others) for NLE, they can output the footage
as 16-bit without first resampling the audio in
another program. BTW, I'm mystified why new Sony
camcorders come set for 12-bit recording...
