The Nikkor 100-300mm is unusually free of linear distortion, having a
>>small amount of benign barrel at the "short" end, quickly reducing to
>>no distortion about 135mm, after which it does not develop the dreaded
>>pincushion distortion as it is zoomed to 300mm - makes a good lens for
>>cityscapes, large lakes, or open flat land where curved straight lines
>>are undesirable. I also find the lens contrasty and sharp at all apertures
>>(until diffraction sets in at small stops), though it is not great
>>on TC14A, TC14B, TC14C, TC200, or TC300 - one of the few lenses that is
>>not good on SOME converter.
