(That is a rather all-inclusive statement, and
one I would not make even about the Nikkor
100-300mm f5.6, fine as it is...;-)

This is good advice, and, at least in the
Nikon line, adding a 1.4X TC to the 80-200
f4 or 70-210 f4 restores the FL range at the
long end (with good performance by one stop
down from maximum, and useable wide open).
