The audio set-up on Mini-DV camcorders (and variants) is
confusing. Normally a single stereo track would have left
and right "channels" - but the manufacturers have
confused
this by offering two stereo "channels", each
consisting
of a stereo audio track (both are available in 12-bit mode
only, but since the second is rarely used, and since most
NLEs cannot handle the other track, it is best to leave
the selection at "16-bit" [or change it to 16-bit
- for
some reason all Sony Mini-DV camcorders are sold with
"12-bit" selected], and move the mixer slider to
the "1"
end). The PD150 has XLR connections for the two stereo
channels of one track. I assume that both are mono,
but I do not know... Try connecting your mic, and while
using earphones, touch first one side of the mic end,
then the other. If both sounds appear in the center,
it is mono passed to both channels; if both appear on
one side, it is mono on one channel; if the sounds appear
alternately mostly in one ear then the other, the
connection is stereo. The instruction book should clarify
the connections on this camera, but knowing Sony
instruction books, mebbe not...;-)
